Salkey delivers poems illustrating the physical poverty he saw at home and the spiritual poverty he senses elsewhere. The implication is that everyone, as long as the world exhibits vast economic disparity, will remain homeless: “In my own way of thinking, those who find new ways to make use of the ego could be well on the way home.”
